PICTURING HIGH STREETS LEGACY PROJECT: Picturing Leicester

Photographer Khatun worked with Derby-based textiles artist Ocean Farini alongside participants from Jamila’s Legacy (a Leicester-based mental health and wellbeing charity) to create the new banner artwork. The banner was made during two creative workshops as a legacy project as a follow-on from Khatun’s original Picturing High Streets project in Leicester. Inspired by the banners on display in the People’s History Museum in Manchester, the Jamilia’s Legacy group selected relevant images to create this celebratory banner – made in their own words, photos and stories. Through the workshops, the group not only included items that reflected their own lives but also responded to the future of Leicester’s high streets.

Picturing Leicester is funded by Historic England and is part of the wider Picturing High Streets project, commissioned by Historic England and delivered by Photoworks as part of the High Streets Heritage Action Zone Cultural Programme.
