Private View: The Place I Call Home

Join FORMAT and Ffotogallery on 13th September for the exhibition premiere of The Place I Call Home at Riverlights, Derby.

This cross-cultural exhibition, commissioned by the British Council and curated by David Drake, Director of Ffotogallery presents the work of 13 artists, each using photography to explore the idea of home through the experiences of people living in the Gulf and the UK at a time of rapid change and social mobility.

The exhibition will tour both the UK and Gulf States with its inaugural presentation taking place in Derby. FORMAT is immensely proud to be key partners with Ffotogallery to present The Place I Call Home, Louise Fedotov-Clements, Artistic Director of FORMAT, said “this excellent international programme supports new talents and diverse voices in contemporary photography from across the UK and the Middle-East and shares important international perspectives on a subject that we can all relate to.”

Feeling at home in a place embodies many things – a sense of belonging, familiarity, acceptance, independence, security and prospects and when you move to a new country a sense of home can seem a distant memory. The Place I Call Home explores the notion of home as it relates to contemporary experiences of the Arabic diaspora living in the UK and British people living in the Gulf.
