W.W.Winter Studio Visit

Winters is something of a Derby institution. As the world’s oldest continuously operating photographic business, started in 1852, the company holds the story of the people of the city. Walter Winter was one of the best photographers of his day, winning many prestigious awards for his portraiture and exhibiting internationally. His daylight studio, built in 1867, is still used today and will be open during the FORMAT Festival.

Visitors will be able to see many of the props and cameras in use from Victorian times and gain understanding of how the studio worked and see some of the many thousands of images taken by the company. Volunteers from the Heritage Trust will be on hand to show visitors around the building and tell the story of this 171-year-old company.
