On Visibility: Philippa James and Emma Davies present Women and the Photobook, and the need for such a project in the contemporary environment.
Women and the Photobook travelling reading room will be present at the FORMAT25 Photobook Market from Friday 14- Sunday 16 March. Viewers can drop by and sit in the comfort of the reading room to engage with the wide range of books on display, and drop in to informal ‘armchair’ discussions with contemporary practitioners that will be happening throughout the weekend.
Founded by Philippa James and Emma Davies in 2023, Women and the Photobook is a pop-up reading room that highlights the contributions of female photographers in our industry. Inspired by 10×10’s anthology, What they Saw, this reading room presents a wide range of historical and contemporary photobooks by women, ranging from classic bound volumes to zines and book sculptures.
