Collective Residency Winners
FORMAT is delighted to announce that Disruption have been selected to take part in our Collective Residency as part of FORMAT off-year 2022.
The Disruption team, who are part of O’Driscoll Collective include Anthony Shintai Amao, digital artist; Sipho Eric Ndlovu, spoken word artist; Jamaal O’Driscoll, dance artist and Emily Labhart, producer. Founded in response to the resurgence of the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement in May 2020, Disruption brings together black artists from a range of disciplines who have a strong connection to the Midlands. Driven by research and a commitment to building and representing their community, the collective explores the time we are living in, through cross artform collaboration.
For the residency the Disruption team will develop works in film, photography, spoken word and dance (specifically Breakin’). They will make connections with black communities to explore themes of: toxic masculinity across genders, accountability, success and identity. This forms part of the collective’s mission to present multiple narratives of the black British experience in public spaces, to challenge preconceptions and share individual realities throughart.
The residency will culminate with an exhibition in QUAD’s Extra Gallery Spaces during FORMAT’s off-year, opening on 18 March 2022.
