OPEN CALL: QUAD/FORMAT Emerging Artist Residencies
QUAD/FORMAT are pleased to announce two residency opportunities for Midlands-based emerging artists and photographers whose practice has a focus on lens-based, digital and new media.
We are inviting applications from early-career practitioners who would benefit from mentorship, curatorial guidance, and professional development as part of a supportive residency programme.
What’s on offer:
- Two residency positions are available.
- £1,000 bursary per artist
- Six one-to-one mentoring sessions with the QUAD/FORMAT curatorial team (online or in-person)
- Up to £300 to support travel and accommodation
- Opportunities to present work-in-progress through QUAD/FORMAT platforms
Residencies will be tailored to the individual artists’ needs, with a focus on developing new or ongoing work, navigating the photography, new media and visual arts landscape, and expanding professional networks.
Who should apply:
- Emerging lens-based, digital and new media artists and photographers based in the Midlands
- Individuals at an early stage of their career (not currently in full-time education)
- Those who would benefit from structured support and mentorship
We actively encourage applications from individuals who are underrepresented in the visual arts, including those from global majority backgrounds, disabled and neurodiverse artists, and LGBTQIA+ creatives.

Residencies will run between September 2025 – Aug 2026
