Katrin Koenning is a photographer based in Naarm Melbourne, Australia on unceded Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung country. Probing the currencies of the document, Katrin Koenning’s work stretches across still and moving images and text, at times including found materials. In her extended image-dialogues she uses fragments and slippages to suggest narrative spaces, communities and lived experiences that are open, fluid and multiplicit.
Koenning’s artistic practice centres on themes of connection and relation, positing imaginaries with a greater-than-human world. Many of her longform series render non-human human entanglement and intimate kin. Koenning is the recipient of multiple awards, including, the Bowness Photography Prize (Australia). Her work has been exhibited in Australia and other international solo and group exhibitions, including presentations at Ishara Art Foundation, Dubai (UAE), Chobi Mela International Festival of Photography (BD), Paris Photo Art Fair (FR), Hamburg Triennial of Photography (DE), Monash Gallery of Art (AU) and Australian Centre for Photography, among others.
