Romanian photographer Maria Sturm first studied photography at the University of Bielefeld, Germany before completing her MFA in Photography at the Rhode Island School of Design as a Fulbright and DAAD scholar.
Sturm has been awarded several prizes including the New York Photo Award 2012 and the Docfield Dummy Award, Barcelona, 2015. She has exhibited widely including at the Aperture Foundation, New York; Clamp Art, New York and Foto Istanbul Festival.
Her project For Bird’s Sake, made in collaboration with Cemre Yesil was shown as part of Modern Ornithologies, an exhibition curated by Rodrigo Orrantia at FORMAT17:HABITAT.
Sturm has been published in the BJP, The Guardian, Zeit Magazine and Colors Magazine.
