Michelle Sank

Michelle Sank, born in South Africa, moved to the UK in 1978 and has been working as a photographer in her adopted country since 1987.
Sank has exhibited and published extensively in the UK, Europe and the USA including at the National Portrait Gallery; Discoveries, Fotofest, Houston;  Phoenix Gallery, Devon; Kakenhallen Gallery, Finland; Belfast Exposed Gallery, UK; Centro de la Imagen, Mexico; Sirius Arts Centre, Eire and Gallerie Vassie, Amsterdam.
She has won a number of Arts Council Awards; the Taylor Wessing Prize for portraiture; International Photographic Award, BJP; San Francisco International Photographic Exhibition and the Kula Lumpur International Photo Award.
Sank’s work is in several collections including that of Allan Servais; Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; Open Eye Gallery, Liverpool; Woodstock Centre for Photography, New York; Societe Jersaise and Guernsey Museum, Channel Islands.
Sank’s work has been published in a number of books including her own monographs The Water’s Edge; Becoming and The Submerged.
