Sergey Novikov (born 1979 in Cheboksary, USSR, based in London). I have got an education in photo and video editing. I have been working on photographic projects since 2010. My projects center on the economy and culture of territories and societies and the mechanisms by which they function. Photographic practice includes interventions in urban landscape and staging as well as reenactments of the visual marks of modernity.
My recent projects in the form of photo books were shortlisted for the Images Vevey Dummy Award 2019 and 2021, the Luma Rencontres Dummy Book Award Arles in 2016 and 2017, the Photobookfest Moscow Dummy Award 2017 and 2018, the Anamorphosis Prize 2016. My photographs have appeared in The Guardian, Der Spiegel, Four Four Two, Journal of Urban History, Canadian Journal of Communication, European Images, Wired, Lenscratch, Fotografia Magazine, Calvert Journal, The Atlantic Cities, BuzzFeed, YET magazine, Dazed and Confused, Spiegel, The Baffler magazine, dekoder and many other publications.
I worked at artistsʼ residencies in Vladivostok (Zarya, 2016), Riga (ISSP, 2019) and Norilsk (PolArt, 2021). My projects and single images were exhibited during personal and group shows at numerous venues, including AFF Gallery, Berlin; Format Festival, Derby; Noorderlicht photography festival, Groningen; The Lumiere Brothers Centre for Photography, Moscow; Athens Photo Festival and many others.
