William Lakin is an artist based in London working on image and text, research-based projects as well as teaching on the BA Photography course at Middlesex University. He is currently undertaking a practice-led PhD at London College of Communication on the subject of disinformation and strategic narratives.
In addition to his art practice, studies and teaching, Lakin runs an online platform for contemporary photography called 46 Space (XLVI) which publishes virtual exhibitions, interviews and open calls.
His work centres around shared narratives and ideologies. Using photography as a tool to isolate and disrupt symbols of power and culture, his intention is to reveal how the apparently ordinary can be symptoms of larger social constructs and prevalent historical narratives.
Lakin views is practice as an exercise in problem solving; through developing visual solutions to communicate abstract phenomena his work offers viewers a way in to considering the development and consequences of prevalent but difficult to define concepts.
