Dr. Philip Harris is an academic, researcher, and lecturer on BA (Hons) Photography at the University of Derby. His artwork and research explores the potential significance of cranky and obsolete media in the representation of politics, identity, and environment.
He was co-organiser of the FORMAT19 and 21 Conferences, and is co-organiser of the conference for FORMAT23. He produced and staged Hymn for Ukraine, a large scale visual/sonic vigil in aid of Ukraine, for FORMAT Presents 2022. He is the curator of We Are Nothing Without Stories, an exhibition of image-led research by academics in the College of Arts, Humanities, and Education, University of Derby. His current work, UKraine Lives, is a long-form collaborative project with Ukrainian refugees also included in FORMAT23.
